Special Information for visitors to Hartland Abbey in 2020. NB NO PRE BOOKING REQUIRED.
The Gardens, Grounds, Walks, Exhibitions and Film exhibition, Museum, displays and Gift Shop are now open on SUNDAYS TO THURSDAYS 11-5pm (Gift Shop and exhibitions 11 – 4pm and last admission to gardens 4pm). The main reception rooms in the Abbey will remain closed to visitors until further notice but the displays and exhibitions which are open are full of interest. Masks are mandatory in the exhibitions and Gift Shop.
One person will be required to get out of the car at the kiosk on arrival to pay for the occupants. Payment will be taken, preferably by contactless card payment.
Visitors are requested to bring their own hand sanitiser for their own peace of mind when opening and shutting gates particularly on the walk to the beach and walled gardens. Hand sanitiser is provided in the loos and in the Tea Room area. There may be some one way routes in pinch points in the exhibitions and gardens in order to maintain social distancing. Please be aware of your own and the safety of others at all times. There is so much space at the Abbey it should be easy to take care.
We ask our visitors to rigidly respect social distancing and keep children under control at all times.
The Tea Rooms will be serving delicious sandwiches, baguettes, hot and cold drinks and their especially delicious cakes and cream teas all in compostable packaging. Visitors are also able to enjoy picnics on the large grassy car park or at the beach. We especially ask that visitors take all their waste home with them to keep the environment clean and to help our staff keep safe.
Ice creams will be available from the payhut.
Our lavatories will be open on a ‘one in, one out’ system. Regrettably we are unable to open the wheelchair or baby changing facilities as these are situated within the house which at present has to remain closed. We apologise profusely but the situation is out of our control. Wheelchair access to the Gift Shop and Exhibitions will sadly not be possible either at the moment.
We are very happy to announce that we will be having some outdoor theatre performances for adults and children on the lawn in August and September. Please see our Events/Outdoor Theatre page for details.
The following information is not necessarily relevant during the Coronavirus outbreak but is information for those planning a visit in the future.
We will open at other times and dates for groups of over 20 people if required.
A visit to Hartland Abbey is fun for all ages. Whilst adults enjoy the house and grounds, children can enjoy the quiz with everyone winning a prize!
